As a part of the World Allergy Week, people are encouraged to be aware of their winter allergy triggers. 

In fact, one in eight adults and one in seven children in New Zealand, asthma, and up to 80% of all asthma is caused by allergies, " says Letizia Harding, Executive Director of the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation of new zealand. 

"It is important for people with allergic asthma, their triggers, and try to minimize them." 

One of the most common allergens as fecal waste from the house dust mite. 

"Draw everywhere and we have them in our homes, furniture, rugs, mattresses and pillows," said Letitia. 

They are microscopic, and their waste products can easily enter the air and can lead to severe allergic reactions when inhaled, can cause asthma in some people. 

"When it's cold, we tend to spend more time at home with our windows and doors are closed, which means that we will have a closer contact with the trigger, then it's normal."

To improve the treatment of asthma and allergies, ARFNZ helps to reduce the triggers in the living areas. It includes: 

 * Keep your home dry, well-ventilated and warm 
 * Reduce mold and dust to a minimum 
 * The animals out of the bedrooms.
